Portliner

The first automated railway system in the world

What is Portliner

Portliner carries passengers between Sannomiya and Port Island. It is the first automated (i.e. no drivers) railway system in the world, began services in February, 1981. Since Kobe Airport is located to the south of Port Island, Portliner is extended to Kobe Airport. See Kobe new transit CO.LTD. for more info.

A train consists of six cars. It can run at the rate of 60 kilometers an hour. New cars will be introduced in 2006, which run at the rate of 60 kilometers an hour.

Access to Marineair

Kobe Airport is only 8km away from Sannomiya and 18 minutes ride. It costs you 320 yen (one way ticket). A train for Kobe Airport runs every 10 minutes.
